PRESS RELEASE

Michael & Peter Spierig To Helm Supernatural Thriller ‘Winchester’ – Cannes

05/10/2016

MIKE FLEMING JR (www.deadline.com) - EXCLUSIVE: Daybreakers helmers Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig have been set to direct Winchester, a supernatural thriller based on the world famous Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA. The Spierigs, who also helmed Predestination, have written the script and the film is set for financing by Diamond Pictures and Bullitt Entertainment, just in time for the Cannes market.

Pic tells the strange and dramatic tale of Sarah Winchester, who was heir to the Winchester firearms fortune. Her husband and child died suddenly, and Sarah came to believe she had been cursed by the lethal legacy of the “gun that won the west” and all of those who ended up on the wrong end of the gun barrel. She consulted a medium, who sent her to San Jose in 1884 to begin a massive construction process that took 38 years and resulted in a 24,000-square-foot, 160-room Gothic mansion. Pic was developed by Imagination Design Works, which owns rights to the house and gave this film its only endorsement, which allows the film to shoot on the premises of the actual home.

Diamond and Bullitt are co-financing the pic with Australia’s Blacklab Entertainment, with Diamond selling international territories and WME brokering the U.S. rights deal.

IDW’s Brett Tomberlin and Blacklab’s Tim McGahan are producing, with Bullitt’s Benedict Carver, Diamond’s Daniel Diamond and Tobin Armbrust the exec producers. Andy Trapani, Tony Lianos, Brian Gilbert, Marc Shipper and Simon Oakes are also exec producers. Shooting will begin later this year in San Jose and Australia.

The filmmakers are repped by WME; IDW is repped by Michael Black Management and Mark Temple Law and Blacklab by Marshalls+ Dent Lawyers. Sheppard Mullin repped Diamond and Bullitt.
